Indigenous Science Night: Stones, Stories, Stars

Indigenous Science Night is a one-evening gathering of Indigenous sky knowledge, the star stories First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples have used for navigation, seasonal calendars and teaching. You can build a working star map with giant stones, the method behind the stone circles on the prairies, and watch Wilfred Buck's Star Stories in the Infinity Dome with Buck there in person. Tewa educator Greg Cajete demonstrates ancient Puebloan sun-and-moon light alignments, Diné astrophysicist Alvin Harvey leads a no-screens session on the night sky before satellites, and the Rothney Observatory brings telescopes. Kids can bead their own constellation, and the Moonlight Market sells work by Indigenous artists.
