Calgary Beaver Fest
This is the first Beaver Fest, a free afternoon festival from the Land Lovers Network, a southern Alberta land and water stewardship group. Beavers are called a keystone species because their dams slow and store water, creating wetlands that help a watershed cope with drought and floods, and that's the theme of the day. It sets up on the field south of the Boathouse near Vista Point and Parking Lot A, with live music, beaver-themed food and drinks, wildlife and watershed education booths and active games. Several fire pits will be lit, and the organizer suggests dressing for the weather. Weekend parking fills up, so carpooling helps.
