🎨Paper and Deckle makingSammie CafeSW·Wed, Sep 23·6pm·$55.00›

Making paper is easier than you think. Especially since we have materials to create paper right in our recycling box. This reusable art form can stretch out over multiple projects. The first step to papermaking is making a Deckle. A deckle is a waterproof form that makes uniformed shapes for your paper pages. Incorporating handmade paper into your artwork brings an extra touch of creativity to any project. Use it to craft cards, paint, scrapbook, or even stockpile it for paper mache and sculpting. With an endless supply of material, the possibilities for creativity are truly limitless.

🎨Lino Block CuttingSammie CafeSW·Thu, Sep 24·6pm·$15.00-$45.00›

Lino printing, also called linocut or linoleum block printing, is a relief printmaking method where an image is carved into a linoleum block, inked, and then pressed onto paper or fabric. It’s a favorite of mine for creating cards—I carve a beautiful block and use it to make personalized designs for special occasions. This Class can take anywhere up to 1 1/2 hours up to 3 hours depending on how intricate you decide to get. Doors will open at 5:30 and we will be printing until 9. So feel free to join us when you can.

🎨Butter Making 101Sammie CafeSW·Mon, Sep 28·6pm·$13.00-$45.00›

Making butter is easier than you might think, and it’s more economical too! All you need is cream and a bit of patience—and honestly, you don’t even really need the patience. Milk solids and whey can be used together or separately. Separate them, and you get butter and buttermilk. Butter can also be turned into ghee, which is great for cooking because it’s healthier than some oils, adds the richness of butter, and has a high smoke point. And all you need to make ghee is butter. We’ll show you how to turn regular cream into delicious butter and fresh buttermilk.

🎸Watercolour techniques and theorySammie CafeSW·Sat, Oct 3·6pm·$15.00-$35.00›

Personally, I think watercolour is one of the most expressive mediums out there. Its fluidity and transparency create images that feel soft yet dramatic all at once. Watercolour has the wonderful perk of portability — you can easily slip your paints and paper into your bag or pocket and create whenever inspiration hits. I like to compare it to the difference between playing a piano and playing a guitar. You can’t just take a piano everywhere, but a guitar can go wherever you do. Watercolour is that guitar — flexible, personal, and always ready for you.

🍷Food Preservation and Pressure CanningSammie CafeSW·Thu, Oct 29·6pm·$14.00-$60.00›

Okay, so the world isn’t ending, and I’m not a canner because I think it is. I can because it’s just that economical (and yes, you probably thought I was going to say “because I can,” didn’t you?). Canning is easily one of my favorite conversation topics. As a pressure canner, I’ve always had a steady supply of food ready for my convenience—and it’s amazing. I have everything from juices to meats on my shelves, all because I spotted something on sale and knew I could use it, if not today, then definitely someday.
