Pumpkins After Dark (Halloween pumpkin walk)
Self-paced kilometre of carved pumpkin scenes
Pumpkins After Dark is a walk-through Halloween light show from Lantern Events, which stages the same festival in eleven cities across Canada, the US and Ireland. At WinSport, a roughly one-kilometre one-way path winds past large lit scenes built from more than 10,000 pumpkins, a mix of real ones and synthetic foam ones that won't rot, all hand-carved by Canadian artists. Music and effects play along the route, with live carving demos, roaming performers and food trucks. Most people spend one to two hours. Expect strobe lights, fog and loud sound, and there's no re-entry.
Pumpkins After Dark Calgary 2026: planning a weekend night at WinSport
Why it matters this weekend
Pumpkins After Dark is an evening plan that works for almost any group: friends, a date or the whole family. It's an outdoor, walk-through Halloween light show at WinSport, Canada Olympic Park, where more than 10,000 hand-carved pumpkins are built into large lit scenes along a roughly one-kilometre path, set to music, sound and special effects.
The 2026 Calgary run started September 25 and continues to October 31, so this isn't a last-chance weekend. What makes October 2-4 a good choice is timing and price. It's one of the run's first full Friday-to-Sunday stretches, entry starts at 7:30 PM, and Sunday is the cheapest of the three nights. Entry times move earlier as October goes on, down to 6:30 PM for the final nights.
The details
- When: Friday October 2, Saturday October 3 and Sunday October 4, 2026. Timed entry starts at 7:30 PM, last entry is 10 PM and the lights go off at 11 PM.
- Where: WinSport, Canada Olympic Park, 88 Canada Olympic Rd SW. The main entrance is at the Festival Tent, and parking at WinSport is free.
- Tickets: Prices change by night. Adult general admission is $20.70 Friday, $21.63 Saturday and $17.93 Sunday. Youth tickets for ages 4-17 are $15.16, $16.08 and $12.39. Those are before GST and fees, and a Saturday adult ticket totals $25.96 with everything added. Children 3 and under are free and don't need a ticket.
- Bundles: A Family Pack covers four admissions at a lower price per ticket, and groups of 20 or more save 10%.

What to expect
You book a 15-minute arrival slot, not a whole evening. Arrive no more than 15 minutes before it, because late arrivals aren't guaranteed entry. Once you're in, the path runs one way and you set the pace. The organizer says most guests spend one to two hours, and there's no re-entry.
The pumpkins are a mix of real ones and synthetic ones made from a lightweight foam the team developed so large installations don't rot. Every one is hand-carved by Canadian artists, and the creative team spends about 11 months building a show. Along the route you'll find live pumpkin-carving demonstrations, roaming performers, photo spots and local food trucks with fall treats. Photography is encouraged.
It's a light show, not a haunted house. The organizer describes it as designed for all ages with no jump scares. The effects are real, though: strobe and flashing lights, fog, blacklights and loud music and sound effects. If anyone in your group is sensitive to those, factor it in before you book.
Pumpkins After Dark is produced by Lantern Events, which runs the same festival in eleven cities this year, including Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, London, Dublin and Edinburgh.
Who it is good for
- Friend groups: It's an evening out with food trucks on site. One order holds up to eight general tickets, and groups of 20 or more get 10% off through a group booking.
- Families: Sunday's $12.39 youth ticket is the cheapest of the weekend, kids 3 and under get in free, and the Family Pack covers four people. For more ideas, browse our kid-friendly events.
- Couples: A self-paced walk through lit scenes, with photos encouraged, is an easy date. Compare other date-night experiences.
- Access 2 cardholders: The card is accepted, so a support person gets in free.
How to plan it
Pick the night first, since that sets the price. Sunday is the cheapest and Saturday the most expensive. Then choose an arrival slot. An earlier slot leaves more time before last entry at 10 PM and lights-out at 11 PM.
Buy online in advance through Showpass. Tickets are non-refundable, but you can exchange them up to 24 hours before your slot. The event runs rain, shine or snow, so plan to dress for an October night outdoors rather than waiting for a better forecast.
Parking is free, and the organizer notes public transit options as well.
Pair it with
Haunted Mini Golf is on the same WinSport site: the 18-hole outdoor course with a Halloween makeover, open Saturday and Sunday 1-9 PM with the last tee time at 8 PM. Show your Pumpkins After Dark ticket for $2 off your group's walk-up admission.
For pumpkins in daylight, The Colossal Carve is free. The market's ice-carving champion carves a giant Taber-grown pumpkin live from 11 AM to 3 PM, on Saturday at Calgary Farmers' Market West and on Sunday at the South market.
