Olympic Oval 39th Birthday Skate (Public skate on the 1988 Olympic oval)
The Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary was built for the 1988 Winter Olympics as the first covered speed-skating venue in North America, and its 400-metre long-track ice is trademarked as The Fastest Ice in the World. It opened on September 27, 1987, and this one-off birthday skate lands on that exact date. Hockey or speed skates can be rented from children's size 8 to adult 12, helmet included. The Oval's skating page, which lists the skate from noon to 3 PM, promises a Bliss Cupcakes treat for the first 100 guests. Strollers and skate aids are allowed on the ice, but carrying children is not.
