Alberta Ballet in Giselle (Romantic-era story ballet)

Giselle is one of the defining ballets of the Romantic era, first staged in Paris in 1841. Act 1 is a sunny village romance that turns on a betrayal. Act 2 moves to a moonlit forest where Giselle joins the Wilis, the ghostly spirits of brides wronged before their wedding day, a scene counted among the most famous in ballet. No words are spoken, and the story is told through dance to Adolphe Adam's score. This staging is brand new, created by Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia after the original choreography, and it opens Alberta Ballet's 60th anniversary season. The show runs 1 hour 57 minutes with one intermission, and Saturday evening is the final performance of the run.
