Arboreal Intuitions & Oooooo (sing together and you will make a perfect circle) (Interactive media art opening)

EMMEDIA, a Calgary artist-run centre for art made with video, sound and electronics, opens two new exhibitions on the same night, with both artists there. In Toronto artist Kat Hartog's Oooooo, two people sing into two microphones and each voice controls one direction on a tube TV screen, so matching notes draw a circle and harmonies draw looping curves. No singing ability is needed. Erika Jean Lincoln's Arboreal Intuitions responds to the loss of Winnipeg's elm trees: a drawing machine starts when you stand half a metre from it, tree canopies shift across two walls, and paper speakers are meant to be touched. Both shows stay up until October 31.
